The control tether is Mil diagnostic tool, originally used to repair bugs in their system. Modified by Krunk, the weapon is used to take control of other Mils with an open data port (typically located on their back). The control tether has three levels, the first being the slowest to lock on, the slowest to reload, and have a fairly limited range at which the tether can shoot. These all increase as the weapon becomes upgraded.

In-game model of the Control Tether

In-game description (At level 3): "The elite tether operates rapidly and reconfigures the target Mil armor to be very strong. Fire when the green lock-on bars appear."

Trivia[]

In the campaign, the Control Tether has limitations regarding distance. If the controlled Mil moves too far away, the connection to the bot will become weaker and eventually be lost, with the warning signs becoming immediately obvious to the player. The limitation is inconsistent between every Mil that has an exposed port. Some Mils can travel a fair distance before the signal begins to weaken, whilst other Mils (such as three of the Titans in Bright Lights, Mil City) will always be shown to have a weak connection.

In multiplayer, the Control Tether lacks this limitation regarding distance, meaning the player doesn't have to worry about losing their controlled Mil bot by mistake.
